In this space, it is our intent to try and capture before and after thoughts of our events from the team and/or attendees.
September 2018: Launch
The theme for our first event was ‘Overcoming Challenges and both our speakers did not disappoint. In fact, I would go as far to say, they exceeded expectations!
Alistair Patrick-Heselton, a celebrated Paralympic spoke first about his journey of overcoming personal tragedy, setbacks and physical challenges through a car accident. Alistair eloquently brought home the message of determination and support networks.
The second speaker was Anne Goldsmith, a wife, mum, teacher and Behaviour Consultant. Anne shared a significant life event, where she had to go with what she felt was right, in her gut. This was in total opposition to what the experts were telling her to do. The decision paid off, and 15 years later she and her family are enjoying the increasing joy of that bold step.
Speaking to the other attendees during the break and afterwards; so many felt inspired uplifted and nourished. I personally left with a different perspective to life challenges and ways in which to address them.
So what has this to do with the day job in education? How many times do we come against a challenge where we feel there is no way forward or we are being pressurised to do something that doesn’t align with our inner core values? It takes courage to persevere and step out … but isn’t that what leadership and being in education is all about?
Our next meeting is on March 14th … see you there!
